6.5 Chapter 6 Author's Notes and Justification

  •  The only time Anna is listed as a lacemaker on a census once they came to America was on the 1875 Kansas census. All other census records list her as a homemaker. I believe she might have used her skills as a lacemaker to earn some extra money during the early years in Kansas.
  • According to the 1875 Kansas census, they had two horses.
  • Anna brought her mother’s sourdough yeast starter with her when they came to America according to a newspaper article telling about an interview with ARJ’s younger sister, Viola.
